Do you find beauty and intrigue in the plant world, and wish you could recreate this with art?
In this seven week botanic illustration course you will be guided in an encouraging atmosphere through the fundamentals of botanical art. Areas of focus will include materials, drawing, shading, watercolour painting and brush techniques, along with helping to develop and hone your observational skills. Techniques that cover drawing, composition, colour theory will be offered in class. The demonstrator will show how masking fluid can be used to achieve very fine detail and will instruct students how to use the NEEF ¼ Comb, an invaluable tool for contemporary Botanical Art.

TUTOR: John Pastoriza-Pinol
John Pastoriza-Piñol is an internationally renowned contemporary botanical artist, residing in Melbourne and studied botany at both Monash and Melbourne Universities, completing a doctorate course at the Universidade de Vigo, north-west Spain and studied in Melbourne under Jenny Phillips. John's work is held in numerous public and private collections around the world. John has been teaching since 2005 and has expanded his teaching circuit to include interstate and international Master Classes.
Materials the students need to bring
Paints: Quinacridone red, Cerulean blue hue, Perylene maroon , Vanadium yellow, Ultramarine blue, Indian Yellow (green shade). Additional colours, Perylene green, May green, Perylene violet, Brilliant blue violet
- Sable watercolour brushes Sizes 6 & 4. (Seniors Art Supplies)
- ¼ Taklon Neef Comb (Seniors Art Supplies)
- Size 4, Art Basics Blending Brush (can be provided)
- Size 2 & 4 Escoda Perla synthetic brushes (Seniors Art Supplies)
Paper: Arches, A1 sheet of 300gsm smooth hot press watercolour paper. (Please no black pads) and a Sketch pad (A2)
Pencils: 3B through to 6H graphite pencils
Masking Fluid: Windsor & Newton Masking fluid, (please note if your masking fluid is more than 9 months old please purchase a new bottle)
Calligraphers nib: Hunt Globe 513EF. (samples can be provided)
Palette: Watercolour palette with individual wells for paint and 2 water jars
